Our team at Sabuk welcomes you to our very special hideaway in Laikipia. We hope that you will enjoy your stay with us, and that your safari will be a truly memorable one. We are very happy to help in any way possible to make your stay more enjoyable, so, please, feel free to ask.
This folder contains some information regarding Sabuk Lodge and our camel fly camps and safaris, and other activities which you may enjoy while visiting with us.
WATER
Fortunately for us water is plentiful here at Sabuk whilst the Ewaso Nyiro River is flowing, but we do have to pump it up from the river where it then proceeds through a series of settling tanks. Please conserve where possible.
The bottled water next to the beds and in the bathrooms is taken from proper bottled spring and mineral water, and then decanted into our ornamental glass bottles. We do not recommend the tap water for drinking, but for washing only.
Kuni boosters are lit in the late afternoon for hot baths and showers in the evenings. Please wait a few minutes for the hot water to reach you. The boosters are relit early in the morning, ready for the hot water required then.
LIGHTING
All the lighting in the camp is provided by solar power, using an inverter system so please turn off any lights when they are not in use, as the lights could have a limited running time. Thank you.
The paths are also lit by solar lamps, as well as a couple of kerosene lights where necessary. And torches (flashlights) are situated next to the beds, so please use these to come to the mess for dinner. Later in the evening, you will be escorted to your room by the guard.
LAUNDRY
We provide a basic same-day laundry service (weather permitting), for clothes left in the laundry baskets in the morning. There is no charge for this. Please note, though, that we cannot accept delicate articles, or ladies' underwear.
VALUABLES
Please leave any valuables, passports, money, etc. with the Manager for safe keeping. We have a safe where these will be locked away until required.
SABUK KIDS
We welcome children here at Sabuk, but please for their safety ensure they are supervised. We are happy to prepare earlier meals for children, and if you would like to take advantage of this, please let the Manager know.
A babylistening service is also available for earlier bed times. We also have some games and 'occupational' activities that we can suggest and give to the children.
SABUK SHOP
Please ask the Manager to open the shop at any time. We sell our delicious honey collected here at Sabuk, as well as a selection of local crafts, jewelley, Sabuk caps, shirts of various kinds, kikoys, etc.
STAFF TIPS
For those wishing to leave a gratuity for the team, there is a small wooden box with a hole in the centre of the top, situated on the shelf in the entrance of the mess area - this is distributed equally among all the staff employed here. A suggestion would be between U.S. $5 - $10 per guest per day. The only person you might like to consider giving a gratuity direct should be to your Guide.
GUIDES
All the guides are members of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides' Association, and all have achieved the Bronze Medal status.
